Outsiders set sights on Sail Melbourne
The Outsider Youth Girls Scholarship program is rapidly becoming a recognised conduit for emerging female talent to gain experience at international competitions. Having only been established three years ago it has already helped athletes towards achieving their dreams in the sport of sailing.
This year the program will assist three sailors in attending the ISAF World Series in Melbourne this year. The successful applicants where Sara & Emma Berry who will compete in the 470 division, and Molly Meech in the Laser Radial division.
Although very young these girls have all demonstrated their ability to compete well in domestic and international competition, however this event will be more around developing themselves further towards success on the international stage in Olympic Disciplines.
The program aims to provide flights and accommodation to emerging young female talent in youth & Olympic classes. Past recipients include Kate Elingham in the RSX class, Alex Maloney & Bianca Barbarich Bacher who recently won the Int. 420 Worlds on Lake Garda in Italy.

Background
The Outsider Youth Girls Sailing Scholarship program was established in 2006 by Mick Ashcroft and Dianne Hill. The program started as an initiative to provide incentives for young female sailors to follow their ambitions to become successful as international campaigners in Olympic Yachting.
The Outsider Scholarship program offers support to developing sailors through two means. The first is the Sail Melbourne Exchange Program, which supports sailors by providing an air ticket and billet accommodation, at the Sail Melbourne, ISAF Sailing World Cup Regatta. This opportunity generally has gone to young female sailors who are recognised as showing potential to compete well in a youth or Olympic Class in the future. Subject to funding the programme aims to support 1-2 sailors each year in this way.
