Keelboat Instructor Course
The Keelboat Instructors course is run over an evening’s preparation and 2 days sailing. Instructors are assessed but the course is also a workshop bringing together instructors to learn off each other and discuss ideas on instructing. By the end of the course successful instructors will be graded 1, 2 or 3 depending on their skill and experience and will be able to teach Levels 1, 2 or 3 of the national Learn to Sail Keelboats scheme.
On completion of the Yachting New Zealand Keelboat Instructors course an instructor will be able to:
- Manage risks and be aware of safety issues related to Learning to sail a keelboat.
- Be aware of the importance of experience and have commitment to furthering one’s experience
- Have ability to deliver Yachting New Zealand’s Learn to Sail a keelboat scheme at Level 1, 2 or 3.
- Be committed to delivery of the Yachting New Zealand Learn to Sail syllabus.
- Show competence in practical aspects of sailing a keelboat.
Pre –entry requirements
- Applicants must be competent at skippering a keelboat
- Minimum age of 16 years of age
- Over 18 years (if under 18, need approval from Yachting New Zealand)
