Thoughout the year Yachting New Zealand facilitates a number of courses. Please contact us if you are interested in attending a course in your area or can gather a group who are interested.

Club Instructor Courses 2010

The Club Instructor Course qualifies you to teach the Yachting New Zealand Learn to Sail Dinghy course. See the full course outline

In order to attend a Yachting New Zealand Club Instructor course, participants are required to be:

  • over 18 years old (15-17 for Assistant Instructor qualification)
  • a member of a yacht club/organisation affiliated to Yachting New Zealand
  • competent small boat sailors (dinghy)

Keelboat Instructor Courses

The Keelboat Instructor Course qualifies you to teach the Yachting New Zealand Learn to Sail Keelboat course. Application forms are available by clicking here.

In order to attend a Yachting New Zealand Keelboat Instructor course, participants are required to be:

  • over 18 years old
  • a member of a yacht club/organisation affiliated to Yachting New Zealand
  • competent sailor with good seamanship skills in a keelboat or similar

Yachting New Zealand Coaching Courses

To gain a Regatta Race Coach qualification the person is required to complete General Principles 1 & 2, Generic Racing Skills. To gain a Performance Coach qualification the person is required to complete the above as well as Specialised Modules 1-6.

Requirements to attend a Yachting New Zealand Coach Course are:

  • Powerboat handling experience
  • Coaching Experience
  • Experienced Racing Sailor

Club Support Boat Driver Courses

Coastguard Boating Education in conjunction with Yachting New Zealand has developed a special course for operators of club rescue and support craft. This course is very relevant and very thorough and aims to increase safety and proficiency of safety boat operators, enabling better safety cover for sailors involved in yacht club activities.

In order to attend the Club Support Boat Driver course, participants are required to be:

  • Over 16 years old
  • There are no other prerequisites

Minimum of 10 participants are required. Maximum of 12 participants per course.
